Mrs. Achini Abeygunawardene, the Head of British International school was a pioneer in introducing the concept of teacher training programme in Sri Lanka. Similarly, she is the directress of British Sri Lanka Performer’s Platform, London Academy of Speech, British Teacher Training College, and International Academy of Language and Performing Arts. At the same time, Mrs. Achini Abeygunawardene is the sole Sri Lankan representative for Victoria College Examinations, UK and the representative of University of West London (LCM) Examinations in Sri Lanka.

Academic career

After receiving her primary and secondary education from Carmen Gunasekara Montessori and Bishops College, Colombo 7 respectively, Mrs.Achini Abeygunawardene was reading a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. When she was in her 3rd year, she won a scholarship to study speech and drama in United Kingdom. Giving up her degree, she decided to pursue Speech and Drama, which was a turning point in her life. Lately, she achieved “Train the trainer qualification in English Teaching” from University of Oxford. Moreover, she has secured three fellowships in University of West London and Victoria College London.

Teaching experience in Sri Lanka

Inspired by the idea of teaching from very young age, Mrs. Achini Abeygunawardene was qualified to teach ATCL at the age of 19, even before completing her Advanced Level Examination. When she was in her early twenties, she was working at University of Kelaniya for a period of one year. After that, Mrs. Achini Abeygunawardene was working as a consultant for several private and international schools in Colombo.

Where the story began..

After working as a consultant for a few private schools and international schools in Colombo, an idea of starting her own school ensued in her mind. As a result, Mrs. Achini Abeygunawardene started the World Vision International school in 1999. Since then, gathering more experience and knowledge, Mrs. Achini Abeygunawardene has excelled the traditions of education and carried her fresh concepts into the field of education in Sri Lanka. Being the head of British International School, she has goals of moulding young children to face the world positively, discovering new dimensions in education while improving the school to meet more foreign standards.
